The Queue for a Better Today (Red za bolje sutra)

where: Cvjetni trg

Simbolic festival opening.
A queue without a beginning or an end. An anti-queue of solidarity and creative flourish between artists, enthusiasts, layabouts, activists, anarchists, eternal students, antichrists, UDBA mercenaries, estranged bastard children of JNA generals, bums, wantons against nature and their partners.

Everybody who has at least once felt like this or has been warned about such deviant behaviour by their dear friends, benevolent neighbours, local dignitaries, civil cervants and other well known citizens is invited to wait with us!

Bring blankets, sleeping bags, bugs, thermos flasks, coffee, precussion instruments, props and everything else that is needed for the production of art, kindness and respectability...

Send your works and ideas to fakifest@gmail.com

- we will walk to places, where we can take humus and plants and find areas which are not proposed for gardening (sidewalks, shoppingstreets,....) where we replant the liberated crops.
- within cracks of the asphalt surface we will spread seeds and plants and also spray moss to provide humus for coincidental insemination.
- with pieces of course grass we will cover several sidewalks, streets and monuments.
- the end of the walk will be a performance at a pedestrian refuge island where the participants can experience the feeling of growing.
- two guests will be invited to join the citywalk:

PREMIERE of the FILM

Director and scriptwriter: Igor Bezinović

Producer: Oliver Sertić

Executive producers: Saša Balent and Tin Žanić

Cameramen: Đuro Gavran i Jadranko Marjanović

Editor: Martin Semenčić

Music: Hrvoje Krešić, Hrvoje Radnić, Damir Kvesić – Kramasonik studio

Sound director: Ivan Mihoci

Year: 2009

Synopsis:

Three individuals coming from different backgrounds collect recyclable bottles on the streets of Zagreb. Each of them has their own reasons for collecting them alongside their own way of looking at it. While they are collecting recyclable bottles, they talk about their everyday life, as well as their views on friendship, love, hopes, wishes and prospects. It is a unique opportunity to meet people we could not have met but for this film and to listen to the stories of people who have been deprived of their rights and who have much to share.

CHARACTERS
In the process of looking for speakers on the streets of Zagreb, more than fifty bottle-collectors have been contacted. Yet, only three of them eventually agreed to be on camera and tell their life stories.

Krunoslav Matijašević, holding BSc in chemistry, was prematurely forced into retirement due to his alleged psychological instability. Today, he lives in a small apartment with no electricity. He collects recyclable bottles so as to be able to afford a 'state-of-the-art computer'. When he is not collecting, Kruno attends public cultural events free of charge (e.g. transcendental meditation lectures, film shows, street concerts, courses, etc.).

Bakir Bešić came to Zagreb from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of the 50s. Before retirement he worked as a manual worker. He sells old clothes on the Gagarinov put (Gagarinov Road) and in the afternoons he collects recyclable bottles. In the evenings, he goes to Borongaj on a regular basis to help his friend with minor manual tasks, and in return he gets ćevapčići (grilled minced meat dumplings) for free. Bakir claims that he has slept with more than a thousand women, and his life goal is to find a new wife in the wake of three unsuccessful marriages.

Lavoslav Bauman is a student of history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. After he quit his job as an office worker in a savings bank, he has begun collecting recyclable bottles 'for fun and a small income'. He quit his job so as to be able to dedicate himself more to his studies, especially the problems of economic history. Few Lavoslav's age-mates collect recyclable bottles, which he considers socially responsible and useful behaviour which should be practiced by everybody.

«What do I think about when I collect recyclable bottles? It depends on the impressions of the day, what I perhaps dreamt of or what is currently talked about, what I should do, a research paper I have to hand in or some girl or I think about politics in general, what I heard on the news, music, I keep count of the bottles collected, where I could go and find some more... And so on.» Lavoslav

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Igor Bezinović was born in 1983 in Rijeka. He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences where he obtained BA in philosophy and sociology and where he is a comparative literature undergraduate. He met Đuro Gavran, the cameraman, at a video activism workshop in the organization of «Fade In» in June 2006, when the idea for this film was born. After the workshop he enroled in the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, where he met Martin Senečić, the editor. Jadranko Marjanović joined the project as a cameraman, as well. Beside the documentary «Non-Recyclable» (Restart production, 2009), Igor and Đuro have made another documentary titled «Above the Average» (Dramatic Arts Academy produciton, 2008).

Maintaining their creative continuity, the troupe dedicates NUMBERS in remembrance to their late friend, and one of the founders, Boško Bozadžievski.

And crisis on the seventh galaxy…
An ounce of ketchup and mayonnaise,
and a pink masquerade of black shades,
oh, you 3king eternity…

10 00 pm
KnAM Theatre, Russia
Colectivo Kabeza de Zebra, Chile
(Video projection)

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

KnAM Theatre, Russia
In solidarity with our Russian friends, KnAM Teatre from Komsomols on Amur, we will show the video of their performance „Kill Shakespeare“ . They produced „Kill Shakespeare“ before closing KnAM Theatre due to lack of support by the municipal government.

"Kill Shakespeare - sounds sufficiently paradoxical.
Today the KnAM Theatre is living through serious financial difficulties; it is on the verge of "suicide". In a world where everything is measured in money, few worry about the disappearance of something intangible and non-material. Who needs this Shakespeare with his ridiculous, insoluble question - "TO BE or NOT TO BE"? Today these tattered volumes of a genius could be displayed in the garbage dumps in all of the territories of our unbounded motherland. The KnAM Theatre continues its search in the realms of form and actual expression. This time the theme of the play is the theatre itself. The new play "Kill Shakespeare" is the history, founded in the events of the life of this small theatre, in which, as in a drop of water, is reflected the life of many artists. But, this play is not only about an avant-garde theatre from a provincial Russian city, it is about culture generally, and what is means to the modern person. The time of culture is leaving the lives of people, unnoticed. Nothing has any VALUE, but everything has a price. There is no need to murder anyone actually, the indifferent crowd and the negligent administration is doing it much more quickly. Shakespeare himself disappears."
www.knam.theatre.ru

Kabeza de zebra, Čile
The Kabeza de Zebra Collective is a theatre troupe that uses the streets as its stage with the intention of defeating the barriers imposed by theatre and bringing art to many more people, in their majority occasional spectators.
www.kabezadezebra.blogspot.com

"This is a performance composed by a sequence of scenes which have a thematic that may go from the quotidian and the urban to news events, folklore, and popular music, everything seasoned with a lot of humor. It uses as its stage the city’s zebra patterned crosswalks lit by punctual traffic stoplights. Time comes as one of the principal characters in this work because the collective play with the exact time the stop light is red."

KUD LJUD, Slovenija
Electrical invasions

where: Bogovićeva Street

Group Ljud is is an informal group of young creators who in theatre and other media recognize the space for cooperation and construction of their ideas. In the creation process of a theatre play, they are always dealing anew with various forms of interaction between the audience and performers and thus constructing theatre as a game, a ritual and as a place of social networking.

They are interested in working in public urban spaces, the eclectic merging of genres, techniques and styles; and they pay a lot of attention to the purpose and social context of their work. They see the group of authors as the only real creator of theatre „gesamtkunstwerk“.

Every New Paper is Your Paper (Svaki novi list je vaš list)

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

An artistic work that is conceived as a performance and a two channel video instalation presented by Antonija Čačić from Zagreb and Darija Žmak from Rijeka.

The work Every new paper is your paper is an expressive gesture, engaged romantic act of protest against violence. The two channel video instalation is a contribution to the fight against the system of values which is built on intolerance, superficiality, exclusion, and often hate, against the discomfort of society towards everything that is different and where striving for prosperity is only done decoratively. A colaborative artistic work in video form and a performance that talks about violence, processes of violent destruction and reconstruction of our own home, about losses and new beginnings.

12 00 pm
Kabare KUFER, Croatsia
On the honesty or responsibility of capital

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

Kazališna udruga frustriranih redatelja (Theatrical Association of Frustrated Directors) exists since 2001. It was founded by the directors Dora Ruždjak and Franka Perković with the goal of promoting young theatre artists. The fact is that tens of actors and directors after completing their study in Drama Arts at ADU have no possibilities to realize the projects which would enable their further creative development and are forced to make numerous compromises so they could somewhat secure their theatre (and also life) existence. With minimal financial support KUFER offers unlimited time for play preparation (some projects took more than a year to prepare) and, what seems particulary important, offers the right for young people to make mistakes. Even though it is this generation of actors and directors who makes up the substance of the future Croatian theatre, cautious theatre institutions are not ready to find out for themselves and support them but rather just wait that somewhere accidentaly all by itself „new talents“ crystalize.

The theatre happening „On the honesty or responsibility of capital“ wants to demistfiy the process of financing of theatre projects in the city of Zagreb following the emergence of an atypical play from the idea to the premiere. At the same time, in the manner of infamous television shows, „tabloid favourite“, we also find out some personal information about the acting troup. The wish of the participants of this project is not to make the best and most viewed play, their criteria are much lower. They want to make financially and conceptually the most transparent play in the history of Croatian theatre.

TENTOKRAT, Belgrade Serbia
Love Potion (Ljubavni napitak)

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

Day and night is a love potion on special offer which is presented to the public in the form of a performance.

Promotion of „Love potion“ presents one scene from the comical opera with the same name by the italian composer Gaetano Doniceti, one of the greatest masters of bel canto opera from the first half of the XIX century.
The performance treats the phenomenon of promotion with tasting, that has become popular in the last few years with the emergence of the hypermarket, and investigates the reaction of customers to the artifactual product in a recognizable context.

As the group of colaborators in creating theatrical projects, TENTOKRAT is a changeable collective with maximal flexibility of members whoose work is directed towards festival activities and sharing of ideas, contacts, experiences and creative impulses with all the interested parties and ulterior phenomena.

7:00 pm
ARUŠA Theatre
The sun has set, but my heart still beats like a Turkish delight that falls against the bass drum

(Sunce je zašlo, ali moje srce još uvijek kuca kao Rahatlokum koji pada o bas bubanj)

where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

Boris Barta, Darko Jeftić, Nikolina Komljenović, Ivan Marcinel and Karlo Slavikovski founded the Aruša theatre in 2005. Interestingly, the theatre will self destruct exactly on the 21st of December of 2012, the day when the Majan calender stops.
We are working on only this performance, new performers are coming and structuralchanges of the performance are happening. It is wholy based on the research of dr. Ronald David Laing who is one of the most prominent experts on antipsychiatry.

In this play the performers are testing the limits of expression with focusing on extreme non-verbal communication.

9:00 pm
ARKA MUKHOPADYAY (Logos Theatre), India
Shreds and Patches

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

Set up in 2005, Logos Theatre is the banner under which director/ performer Arka Mukhopadhyay creates new works of theatremaking.

The piece takes two questions as its starting point—Who is 'my' Shakespeare? and what does he mean to me as a performer, as an Indian and as a human being? Is he an unquestionable emblem of human genius, or a disturbing symbol of the colonizing force of language? The play attempts to find the answers in fragments of the Bard's plays and sonnets themselves: the shreds and patches of him (the title is taken from the closet scene of 'Hamlet') that are reflected in various realms of our own experiences.
In its present form, the entire performance is based on Jan Kott’s assertion that ‘every age must decide for itself how much of us there is in Shakespeare, and how much of Shakespere there is in us’. It branches out in different directions—into the exterior world of Bollywood, Himesh Reshamyya and IT, Iraq, the Nandigram massacre and occupied Palestine, of intolerance and organized terror.

11:00 pm
Art Association AMBROSIA, Sarajevo
FACT OFF

Where: AKC Medika, Pierottieva Street

AMBROSIA takes number 7 for the very essence of its existence so the fourteenth aniversary is AMBROSIA’s big jubilee. Working in the area of (counter?) cultural production in art and humanistic disciplines mostly, AMBROSIA realized over 150 of its own artistic, interdisciplinary and multimedial „projects“ – art perfomances, concerts, theatre plays, exhibitions, lectures, radio shows, organized a few international festivals and conferences and published a few textual and audio publications.

FACT OFF is a musical-poetical performance which is prepared and performed in the Ambrosia production. It is a combination of electro-acustic musical sequences and spoken word combined in a whole which leaves room for improvisation and experiment also. Stylisticaly, this is a musical journey to the „other side“ of clear musical classifications although it is possible to recognize jazz, ambiental, industrial, electronic, classical, contemporary influences. Genres can be recognized... none are dominant.

Klopka za pionira (Trap for Pioneers), Serbia
Promotion of new album „Dodole“

where: Mochvara, Trnjanski nasip bb

www.klopkazapionira.net
Trying to surrmount the frames of popular music, Klopka za pionira developed an unusual expression which is founded on improvisation, creative treatment of instruments, application of noise and cooperation by man and machine. Engaged texts, which have been interpreted as an expresive way, have a special role in their sound. The music of Klopka za pionira has often been described as unacceptable, mainly because of too much noise, disonance, unpleasant vocals but also uncomfortable topics that it speaks about. However, it may be just because of their brave attitude towards expression and because of traveling through paths that are never taken, Klopka za pionira has gained the respect from many people and some kind of cult status even among those who cannot stand it.
